We regularly audit websites for businesses who "have SEO done" but see no real change in traffic or enquiries. Almost every time, the site has one or more of these five issues — none of them exotic, all of them quietly capping how well the site can rank.
1. Slow page load speed
Google factors page speed directly into ranking, and visitors abandon slow pages before they even load. Oversized, uncompressed images are the single biggest cause we see — a 4MB banner image where a 150KB version would look identical to a visitor. Video backgrounds, bloated plugins and unoptimized hosting add to the problem.
Fix: compress and correctly size every image, lazy-load anything below the fold, and test your site with Google's PageSpeed Insights to find the biggest bottlenecks.
2. Missing or duplicate meta titles and descriptions
Every page needs a unique title tag and meta description written for the specific topic of that page — not a generic company tagline repeated across the whole site. When every page shares the same title, Google can't tell which page best matches a given search, and none of them rank well.
Fix: write a distinct, keyword-relevant title (under ~60 characters) and description (under ~160 characters) for every page, including service pages and blog posts.
3. Thin or duplicated content
Pages with a paragraph or two of generic text — or content copied from a template and barely edited — rarely rank for anything competitive. Google's systems are built to recognize genuinely useful, original content and reward it over shallow pages stuffed with keywords.
Fix: each important page should answer the actual questions a visitor has, in enough depth to be genuinely useful — not padded for length, but not thin either.
4. No mobile optimization
Google primarily uses the mobile version of your site to determine rankings, for every visitor — not just mobile searchers. A site that looks fine on a laptop but has overlapping text, tiny tap targets, or horizontal scrolling on a phone is being actively penalized in search results, and it's losing the majority of local visitors, who search on mobile.
Fix: test every page on an actual phone, not just a resized browser window, and fix layout issues before worrying about anything else.
5. No internal linking or site structure
Many small business sites are a handful of disconnected pages with no links between related content. This makes it harder for Google to understand which pages matter most, and harder for visitors to find related services or read more before contacting you.
Fix: link related pages to each other naturally — service pages to relevant blog posts, blog posts to related services, and every page back to a clear call-to-action.
Where to start
You don't need to fix all five at once. Start with page speed and mobile experience, since they affect every visitor and every page. Then move to titles, descriptions and content depth on your highest-value pages — usually your homepage and top service pages. If local visibility is your main goal, pair this with the steps in our guide on local SEO for Lucknow businesses.
If you'd rather have this audited and fixed for you, our SEO services start with exactly this kind of technical review before any content or link-building work begins.
